Tove Jansson Centenary
Sorry, Tuukka Rask, but you will alway be in second place in my top ten favourite Finns list, behind Tove Jansson, author of the magical books about the Moomins which were such an important part of my childhood, and which I still read as an adult when I need a comfort read.
If you haven't read these before, you are in for a treat. They are whimsical without being saccharine. And they can be quite dark and introspective too.
The characters are wonderful. I never really warmed to the Snork Maiden; she was always a bit too fixated on her hair and appearance. Little My was more my type, though I think I do have a tendency to turn into the Groke at times.
