BEST FOR A BEDTIME STORY
“Slinky Malinki is blacker than black, a stalking and lurking adventurous cat".
Strangely enough, I can only vaguely remember being read a bedtime story. My parents did read to me every night, but by the time I was four years old, I was reading for myself and apparently stated that I didn’t need them to read to me any more. Which pleased my Dad no end, because he was really fed up with Bunnikin’s Picnic Party.
But Lynley Dodd's books about the cats and dogs who populate Robertson’s Dairy, are ones I’ve read over and over to my niece and nephew (now aged 16 and 19 respectively), assorted god-children, and various friends’ children.
I wish these had been around when I was a child. My Dad would have loved them.
