MOST DELICIOUS NOVEL ABOUT FOOD
I confess I really struggled to think of a book for today's challenge, and resorted to typing "books about food" into Google to see if it came up with something I'd actually read. And luckily it did.
OK, so The Book of Unholy Mischief, is not going to change your life, win the Pulitzer Prize, or be in the running for the next great American novel, but it's a fun read for all that. It had all the right ingredients (haha) for me, in that it's a murder mystery set in Renaissance Italy just after the death of Savonarola.
Luciano, the book's protagonist is a young orphan apprenticed to the doge’s chef, and in amongst the intrigue and murders in the Venetian palaces, there are some fabulous descriptions of the food of the times.
As I said, this novel isn't great literature, but if you want a page-turner of a beach read, then give it a try.
