I thought my 2013 Massachusetts bird list was going to stall at 138 species, but a cold, snowy walk this morning has boosted it to 140.
We have seen a pair of pileated woodpeckers and a yellow-bellied sapsucker. And these weren't fleeting glimpses either. We were able to spend absolutely ages watching them through binoculars. It made the snow and the cold all worthwhile.
I've had to use a stock internet photo, because annoyingly we didn't have the camera with us as we weren't expecting to see much today due to the weather. Isn't that always the case?
