Day 1: THE BEST BOOK YOU READ THIS YEAR
Quite a tricky one this, as I've read some really excellent stuff, but I think I'm going to choose Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. YA can either be very, very good or absolutely terrible. And this book is firmly in the former category.
Taylor has done some fabulous world building with this book and I love the heroine, Karou, with her bright blue hair. The supporting characters are all three-dimensional and Taylor doesn't shy away from putting them through some horrendous situations.
Can't recommend this book highly enough and I'm looking forward to the final installment.
An honourable mention must also go to The Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. I read these very quickly one after the other and had an absolute blast. Great fun, and not to be taken too seriously.
