October #bookadayuk – Days 1–3

Wuthering Heights - Emily Brontë, Pauline Nestor Three Men in a Boat - Jerome K. Jerome Wolf Hall - Hilary Mantel

Day 1 - Book to curl up in front of the fire with

One thing I love about my house is that it has a real fire. And in the winter when the fire is blazing away, I wrap myself in a blanket, curl up with a book and shut the world out. And when the wind and snow are slamming against my windows there is nothing better than Wuthering Heights. I’m immediately transported from suburban Boston to the wilds of the Yorkshire Moors.

Day 2 - Favourite fictional dog

I’m more of a cat person, but I think I’ll pick Montmorency from Three Men in a Boat. He must be a very patient hound as there is no way a cat would put up with those three idiots. Also, no self-respecting cat would even get into the boat in the first place.

Day 3 - A book I love from one of the 2014 Cheltenham Literature Festival authors

Oh look! Hilary Mantel is speaking at the festival. No surprises as to what my choice is for this one.
