A Book a Day - Day 9

Twilight - Stephenie Meyer

MOST IRRITATING CHARACTER IN A NOVEL

Bella Swan. Need I say more?

Oh go on then, I will. I know there are plenty of characters in Dickens' novels who irritate the hell out of me (I'm looking at you, Dora Spenlow), but they are of their time and so get a pass.

But Bella bloody Swan hasn't got that excuse. She's a 21st century woman, yet she acts like a Disney princess waiting to be rescued. She drove me mad while I was reading Twilight. In fact she annoyed me so much with her pathetic "oh, but I'm nothing without a man" act, that I didn't bother reading any more of the series because I knew I would end up launching the books across the room and I didn't want to risk breaking my windows.

“Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.” - Stephen King

Worst. Role model. Ever.
