A Book a Day - Day 2

Deryni Rising - Katherine Kurtz

FAVOURITE SCI-FI/FANTASY NOVEL FOR WORLD UFO DAY

I have been reading sci-fi and fantasy for more years than I care to admit. Ranging from 'hard' sci-fi all the way to dragons and unicorns, with a recent foray into urban fantasy and steampunk.  So rather than go for the obvious - such as Asimov, Heinlein, or The Hobbit, or Lord of the Rings, I thought I'd go back to my teenage years and choose Katherine Kurtz's Deryni books because these were some of the first fantasy books I read.

I enjoyed them because they're not the typical 'quest' fantasy books with the lowly farmhand who turns out to be the missing heir to some ancient throne and has to find the oh so important missing artifact which will enable him to regain his throne. No, these books have political intrigue, battles, lots of deaths, and a whole lot of magic.  And as an impressionable teenager, I fancied the arse off Alaric Morgan.
