So excited to see one of these gorgeous little birds today. Virginia rails are notoriously elusive, and camera-shy so this was a real thrill. Of course my husband was on the golf course and wasn't available with his camera, which is why I'm using a stock internet image.
It was just one of those lucky "right time, right place" moments where I was on the trail and the bird stepped out of the reeds right in front of me, preened himself, and then scuttled into the undergrowth, while I just stood there with my mouth open (not a pretty sight).
Also saw yellow warblers, wood ducks with six adorable ducklings, marsh wrens, and a beautiful great crested flycatcher.
Yep, a pretty successful morning. (Husband has returned from golf and is now wildly jealous).
